Did you know I've produced a podcast? During episode one I explain what to expect, what inspired me to create the podcast, who it's designed for and what I'd like the podcast to achieve. You can take a listen or read the below transcript. Georgina: Welcome to Speak UP ED, by the London LAMDA studio. Listen to students, share their ideas on the world's greatest contemporary issues. Interviewer: Today, we're talking to London LAMDA studios founder and tutor Georgina Hart. Georgina began her professional journey, working in entertainment at the prestigious Sandbanks hotel, in Dorset and soon became their resident lead vocalist. Continually looking to advance her skillset in the arts Georgina went on to work abroad for two of the UK's biggest travel companies, TUI and Thomas Cook as show team member and lead female vocalist. Between contracts, Georgina continued her training with some of the best vocal coaches and theatre companies in Europe, as well as studying internationally in Holland, in collaboration with the London College of Music. In 2018, Georgina opened her own dedicated LAMDA studio as a way of inspiring young people to reach their full potential and is excited to be partnering with international schools, to bring the benefits of LAMDA tuition, to new areas of the world. Georgina also works regularly as a supporting artist in the film and television industry. More recently working with Netflix and the BBC on a range of television series and feature films. She sees this as a great way of remaining up to date with the best industry practices and always enjoys observing the production directors. Georgina was also invited by Masterclass the popular online training platform to offer her expertise, to review and shape the new Natalie Portman masterclass. Welcome Georgina. So tell me, what is the Speak Up ED podcast and what can we expect? Georgina: So the Speak Up ED podcast is affiliated with the London LAMDA Studio and is essentially a platform we've provided for our students to share their opinions and ideas on the world's current issues. Interviewer: Amazing. What inspired you to create this podcast? Georgina: I currently tutor young people in the LAMDA public speaking exams and what I've loved most about coaching, this syllabus has been the student's fresh and innovative views on the world around us. So I decided to create this channel in order to enable my students to share these views with more people. And I hope they'll gain a sense of pride in being able to do this. Interviewer: That's er, that's really inspiring. Very cool, indeed. So who is this channel designed for? Georgina: This channel is designed for a number of people. It's first and foremost, a platform for my students to show off and have a sense of pride in their work, but it's also for their parents. Who you don't actually get to hear their fantastic work that is being achieved as they only ever perform in an exam room. And lastly, without wanting to sound too cheesy. It's for the world. There's a lot we can learn from our young generations. They've grown up in a completely different world of smartphones, YouTube stars, global pandemics, and it's so interesting to notice what matters most to them and what they would change about the world we're living in. Interviewer: I think this is a, this is a really cool thing that you're, that you're doing here and you've kind of glimpsed at it, but just tell us, what do you hope this podcast will achieve? Georgina: I believe it's important for young people to have an opportunity and a platform to find their voice and be able to express with clarity and confidence, their own opinions, thoughts, ideas, and what matters most to them. I hope that by having this platform, my students will learn that their opinions are important and are valid. And this is something I feel we should be encouraging all young people to do. What makes a great public speaker by TED Talks. TED talks are always a fantastic resource for not only Speaking In Public research but also for skills based learning. There is one talk in particular that I would like to highlight that will allow students to gain knowledge and inspire some home practice of the skills that public speaking requires. The 110 techniques of communication and public speaking by David JP Phillips outlines and highlights that we aren’t born public speakers, like anything it’s a skill that must be practiced and honed. Phillips goes through some examples of tone, pitch, pace and pause- vocal and physical skills. All of which we cover and coach in our weekly LAMDA lessons. "David JP Phillips has spent 7 years studying 5000 speakers, amateurs and professionals in order for the first time in history to detail every single skill a communicator from stage or in a presentation uses in order to deliver their message. This TEDx talk gives you the very most important ones to bring with you to your next presentation or even everyday communication!”
I highly recommend students of Public Speaking to watch this talk and any others they might find of interest from this expansive resource. 📆 https://www.londonlamdastudio.co.uk/book.html 📸 https://www.Instagram.com/londonlamdastudio 🎧 https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1699111.rss
