WE'VE BEEN THERE...
A WORD FROM THE FOUNDER - GEORGINA HART
"Throughout school my report card included Attendance- A, Quality of Work- A, Communication in Class- C. With the comment that I was intelligent, capable but quiet in class. We use the framework and syllabus developed by The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Tutoring in Public Speaking, Verse and Prose and Acting as a tool for progressing confidence in front of a crowd to ensure that no child feels left out or left behind, as I did. One aspect growing up that really helped me to develop my voice was the Arts. I'm a professionally trained vocalist and lead singer of 'The New Jazz Age', a prohibition inspired band. I'm also a working actress and can often be spotted in TV/Film projects. It was through Acting that I learn't the core skills in communication. From studying Acting I was able to learn how to empathise with others thoughts, feelings and ideas which certainly helped when I discovered teaching and further down the line when I decided to open my own studio. |
In 2018 I opened the London LAMDA Studio. At that point we were situated in Mill Hill and I had 6 lovely students. I had opened the studio as I wanted to be able to tutor a little differently. I had seen that group lessons and rushed exams weren't benefitting the individual progress of students and there wasn't the time to add or apply the life skills that LAMDA helps to develop. My classes always tend to begin with a short catch-up about the week, not only to build rapport but to also allow the students to practice conversation skills with someone familiar.
Soon 'lockdown' was upon us, the studio had grown to 25 fantastic students and we switched to online lessons AND EXAMS. I will forever be astonished at the ease in which the students made changes for online LAMDA. They definitely helped keep ME sane! Online lessons have now become incredibly practical, it has meant that the studio has been able to take on students from all over the world, parents are no longer having to battle with the traffic, and tutors are able to use A TONNE of resources ranging from an online library of monologues to TED Talks and Explainer Videos.
Now in 2022, we are staying with online tutoring for it's practical benefits. However, exams will always stay in-person. As a member of the examiners board, I know that being in the room for an exam can be more beneficial for students and certainly more enjoyable!
Now we look to the future..."
